Car revs in 2nd gear then kerchunks into third gear, also at 60k miles?
I have a two door 2005 hyundair accent.
I change the oil regularly, got the transmission fluid changed at 30,000 miles at the Hyundai service center. I've gotten the breaks changed in the back , new tires, tires aligned etc.
I'm getting close to 60,000 miles is there anything major I should be doing to the car?
sometimes when the car is in gear 2 i will be driving and the engine keeps reving like into the 3 rpm marker and kind of kerchunks before it gets into the next gear. Most of the time i let off the gas when this happens but sometimes i need to get into that next gear and it ker-chunks to get to the third gear. Any idea what this is? this has happened with people who regularly drive in my car. one guy thinks that the pistons may be misfiring (probably wrong), another guy thinks i may need a new alternator, maybe somem spark plugs aren't firing? any clues? i can describe it in more detail if need be.

sorry for being such a newb
but can you be more specific about what wires exactly?
Also my one friend was pretty sure that i may need an alternator... your thoughts? do alternators go bad often?

I meant the spark plug wires. Your car requires the timing belt to be changed at 60K miles as well as having the trans flushed again and a few other things as part of the 60K mile service. I would take it in for that service and make sure they replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires.
As for the alternator, unless the battery is going dead, it's probably fine. Use a volt/ohm meter to test both. The battery should have about12.5 volts with the engine off and about 13.8 when running. If the voltage is less than that, then you probably have a bad alternator. I highly doubt the alternator is the problem but it can also be checked by the dealer doing the 60K service.
