"Buy a made in America Sonata."

hmmmm.... for patriotic reasons?

I was looking for a sub-compact commuter car, the Sonata doesn't fall into that category for me.

How about the Elantra -- a very nice car, good on gas, smaller than the Sonata.

I did look at the Elantra. I bought my wife a Santa Fe last winter and got a great deal from my dealership so I'm trying to stay brand loyal. I really don't like the styling of the Elantra as compared to the 3 door Accent. I got an upclose look at one at another dealer but haven't taken one out for a drive yet. The gas mileage as rated by the EPA isn't as good as say a Yaris or Fit, but the Accent's power runs circles around both. I was just wondering if anyone on these boards has one and what they think.

Everything about the car is AWESOME!!!
I just bought it a week ago and love it!!!!!!!
I already scheduled to get the glass tinted to the extreme and I'm thinking about getting a new exhaust system as well.
I want a new stereo, but it's too new just yet, so I'll have to wait for awhile.
BUY IT!!! Youn won't be disappointed!!!

I have about 4000 miles on my 07 accent and I love the little thing. It has good power with great gas mileage. I have the 5 speed and I am glad I got it. There have been a few times that I have had to drop it into 4th on the highway to get out of a bad spot.

I do wish it had a rear wiper. That back glass will fog up on you fast!

It looks like you've done some shopping around; the Yaris, Versa, Fit, Aveo, Aerio and Scion are all contenders in this segment. The new Accent has come a long way compared to the last generation. If I were buying this year instead of last, I may have gotten the Accent instead of the Elantra I ended up with.

That said, if you want to keep it in the family, so to speak, take a look at the Rio5 as well. Kia is owned by Hyundai and the Rio and Accent are on the same platform. Nevertheless, Car and Driver felt the Rio was better all around than the Accent:

The Rio and the Accent share the same drivetrain and platform, and thus should have felt like the Doublemint twins. They did not. Although they have identical wheelbases, the Kia’s body is 10.4 inches shorter, it benefits from tiny suspension tweaks, and it rides on Hankooks instead of Kumhos. Every tester felt the difference. The Rio tracked better than the Accent, offered better on-center feel, was slightly less sensitive to crosswinds, and its struts and springs mustered a modicum of discipline in the snaky byways above U.S. Grant’s cottage — all without compromising ride.
Have fun shopping!

Ive had my 06 rio for over 8000 miles and i love it. It is peppy and gets great gas mileage. I drive 100 miles a day and it is very comfortable. I already tinted my windows, put in some speakers, and did my exhaust. From my expeirence driving the new accent and the rio, go with the rio.
