Default Dash lights and parking lights

Why do the dash lights go off, if I hold my foot on thebreak when at a dead stop? I have found that it blows the same fuse all of the time. The parking lights on the driver side also go off when the dash goes black.

It sounds like a hot lead or wire carrying current has come loose under the dash and is being shorted out when you push on the pedal. I would get a flash light out and then stick my head under the dash to see if the brake pedal mechanism has rubbed the insulation off a wire, presumably a wire leading back to the fuse in question. You might try replacing the fuse and then depress the pedal by hand while watching to see if an arc or a spark is produced when the short occurs.

See if you can get the problem to occur with the key on, but without the engine running. If you are not blowing fuses, then a relay has to be tripping. Without the engine and road noise, you might hear the relay click when it trips out. This might help you trace the problem, which I still think is a shortened wire.

Hi Ken99,
I went under the dash to look for lose or chafed wires that would cause the dash light on/off problem. I put the key in the on position (dash lights were out) and wiggled around wires but I could not get them to flicker on. I found no wires rubbing on the steering wheel assyor brake assy. I did notice that although the dash lights flicker on and off the single bulb that illuminates the odometer never flickers so I think it must be wired in with the other lights like the 4 way flasher light ash tray light radio ETC ECT. Not sure if the relay you are talking about would also make these other lights flicker.
I did find a new problem dealing with my remote started issue that I will write a seperate post.

thx.
