Gas Mileage!
I got this new 2010 2Dr Accent AT hatchback about a month now, and the mpg is really sucks... only 24 mpg!!! My average speed is between 45 - 55. The service rep said, it will be better when it goes several thousand miles later. I think it is a lie.... Is there anyone happen to the same thing? Will it ever goes up to 33 -36mpg after 3000 miles?
Kind of disappointed to this gas issues. |
Yes, mileage will increase as the engine breaks in and loosens up. What kind of driving do you do? City/highway? How do you accelerare? Are you using the A/C a lot? Are the tires at the correct air pressure? Lots of things can cause bad mileage.

Well, I am now more in city than hwy. A/C is turn-on of course in FL. it is hot as hell in here. lol The tires is 32 pound all around.

An update after 6 month driving this accent 2010. The gas mileage haven't change a bit, still sucks! Right now is about 8000 miles. Nothing has change, still 24mpg with AC on. 27mpg without AC. There are no such a thing called "Break-in" period, according to a car expert, every engine has tested and run in the factory over 5000 miles before coming out to the sales lot. Break-in is a lie from the salesman.

There is no way Hyundai (or any other car company) runs every single engine over 5,000 miles before you buy it. Just not true. They take a few cars off the line to test them and do quality control on but those are not sold to the public. Why would anyone buy a new car that has an engine with 5,000 miles on it? Not true. The engines are assembled and installed without being run. They are then started for the first time and driven less than 2 miles between the assembly plant and any transportation to get them to the dealer. |
On every car I owned, including my Accent, running the a/c reduces mpgs by 2-3 mpgs, esp in city driving. Since the weather here is now warmer (and super muggy), I'm now getting 28 mpg instead of the usual 30mpgs around town (I have the manual trans). The first 2 tanks (I bought mine new) returned only 26mpgs (not using a/c). If I wanted more mpgs, I would have bought a hybrid, but I didn't want to spend twice as much for a new car.

I am one of those people who reads the book front to back, and I am DEFINITELY adhering to the break-in ritual. As a result I am getting 33-34 mpg in Alabama hot weather, and look forward to it getting better once the pistons seal and the engine settles. As an A&P mechanic who works on new and used aircraft engines, I can promise that engine break-in is very much a fact.

My Gas mpg is 28 to 34 average, due to A/C turn on because of hot weather, its reduces by 3 or 4 mpg.

Gas mpg
26- is right on! if you drive local & short trips its right on! You have to go on the highway and cruise to see the mid 30's! I have a 2008 Accent with 29k miles and that is what they get--- if you had abigger car you would get way worse driving the local stuff... Enjoy the ride!!

So I just got a 2008 accent 2dr hatchback, it has 29,000 miles on it. I live in Florida and it is in the middle of the rainy crap season. I use the a/c constantly and often have it set to max a/c. I notice that I am getting about 220-230 for a full tank. I am concerned that there is an issue with the car. I hope that it is different when I take this road trip coming up. Is there anything I can do to improve the mileage, with the exception of turning of the A/C?
|
The 2008 Accent hatchback has a 11.9 gal tank. I'm assuming you aren't running the tank dry so I'm going to assume you use about 10 gallons and leave about 1.9 gal in the tank. So 230 miles on 10 gallons is 23 MPG. I don't think that's far off considering you are probably driving city miles and using the A/C a lot.
