Default new 06 accent question

Hey everyone,

I just bought my first Hyundai, the new 06 accent with manual trans. and Ive got a question. Whenever the car is cold and I put it into gear and start driving I hear a noise coming from what I believe to be the transmission. Its almost like a "hissing" noise that is most easily heard at low RPMs as I accelerate through each gear. It's fairly noticeable and my wife described it as almost sounding like a faint "diesel engine noise". It goes away after a few minutes of driving and I only hear it when I am in gear and driving. If I have it in neutral and just rev the engine I hear nothing. I took it to the dealer and they said they don't hear anything but Ive never owned a car that sounded like that before it warmed up. Any ideas?

I don't know if this applies to the new model but the older ones have the flex pipe off of the downpipe in the exhaust and it tends to make a slight hiss noise. Don't worry it is nothing to worry about.

Congrats on your buying the 2006 Accent. I have the automatic 4-speed and no problem here. Hope you solve your noise problem.

Laughing....my 05 Accent GT does the exact same thing. Nothing to worry over though. My wife made mention of the noise after a few times. I told her thats my super charger winding down. Seriously though, if your really concerned just have the dealer look at.
Good Luck,
Brant

I ended up taking it back in and left it overnight so it would be nice and cold in the morning when the tech drove it. They did hear the noise and went and drove another new one off the lot. Apparently, the other car was even louder and they said I was lucky! I guess its normal. This noise and the fact that it can be quite difficult to get into reverse in the morning are my only complaints with the car thus far.
