P0497 trouble code
I have a 2009 hyundai accent I just got out of the shop and the engine light came on. I scanned it and it says p o497 trouble code. I heard that it's the evap system is that correct and what should I check first or replace. Can u help me plz!! I need to figure it out cause I drive along ways everyday so need fixed asap
1. Did you look at your pcv valve? Take off the engine cover (bolted on) and it's on top, on the back right. Look and see if it's screwed in all the way. If it is then remove it and shake it, if it makes a sound and looks good then the part is most likely good but make sure you hand screw it in then with a wrench hand tighten enough so you can't see the screw threads.
2. Check gas cap, especially if you've seen the "check gas cap" light every so often. Clean the cap part where you screw it into the filler neck. Even if you just bought a replacement, you should be able to put your mouth around it then try to blow, then try to suck. If you do this and can't then your check valve in the gas cap is stuck. To remedy this take some wd-40 and spray the little center part and gently push at the little metal springy piece you can see. Also spray the rubber gasket around the base a little. Then let it dry or dry excess spray off with a towel. These should get you straight but if not...then I would check if the vent close valve is working. Everything from here just gets more expensive.
