ok, 03 Accent, 270,000, 1 used motor (recent) and on the second trans (manual)
Last March on a long trip got off the freeway after a long stint in 5th, suddenly all I had was 1st, 3rd, and 5th, a local shop in Tucson took it apart, never was really sure why it did this, replaced 3 bearings and re-installed, has worked fine till now. Said all the gears looked good, it did have a howl in the lower gears before and after this work.

Another long trip and it started slipping in 4th when I shifted down or up under accleration, just once or twice in a 3000 mile trip, I thought maybe the clutch was going. It did this a number times in the last month or so, but if I backed -off and eased into it it seemed to grab and do ok, till the other morning.

going into town ( I live 15 miles from anything) shifted into 4th like normal and it poped out with a bang. At first I tried holding it into 4th but that only works if I'm REAL easy on the gas. It will hold under down shifting, just not with and gas put to it. All the other gears work just fine, shift smooth and hold, so I'm going back and fouth to work using 1,2,3,5.

Could this be a cable ajustment? or is it past due to change out the trans?
