Pulls to side when accellerating
2001 Accent GSI with manual trans. When accelerating, especially right after a shift, the car noticably pulls to the side.
Anyone else had this problem and found the cure? I checked the engine mounts and all is well there. Cheers |
There occurrance is known as "Torque Steer"... comes from application of power (torque) and the un-equal length drive shafts.. left side is short, right side is 2x longer from drive unit to wheel bearing..
Now you can brag to the unsuspecting riding with you that your car has so much power that it takes the steering away from you.. |
Actually, it never used to do this, and it surely hasnt gained any great amount of power recently.
This is much more than what you are describing. cheers |
You should check to make sure that you do not have a brake dragging. An obstruction in one of the lines can cause the brake caliper to release slowly.

my '03 does the same thing after I replaced one of the cv axles

I forgot to update this post for quite some time now. I was able to cure the problem completely. The driver side control arm ball joint was completely worn out, not sure why I didnt find it earlier. I replaced both sides (pass side seemed fine) and she drives straight as an arrow now under acceleration/shifting.
Cheers! |
