Hi, I have a 06 four door accent .Automatic . My wife loves her little car. It has 52k and runs well. It get terrible mileage but she loves it. The sway bar links are bad so it clicks over every bump.
Now it has started to do a rapid, tight rattle for a second upon startup. Not every time, but its getting more regular. I have read about the tensioner on the timing belt, its seems too early for a replacement.
I have googled and read a lot but as yet have not heard anyone having this rattle. I just changed the oil and filter and no change. I tried it without the a/c on and it still does it.
it sounds like its coming from the drivers side down low...always the same sound....short and quick, like a oil pump up rattle.
I have a few cars, she loves this one. Any ideas

I have the same problem did you find out the problem yet. i have 100,000mi runs perfect and gets 29mpg

 

I have changed the oil, looked for loose things. I have not taken it to a dealer as they want money to look at it. It just does it on occasion....cold starts or warm.
when i get to the dealership i will post what it is.....

Are you using a Hyundai oil filter or an aftermarket brand?

 

I use fram filters. Ive been using fram since the car was new. It developed the rattle at around 80k mi and only when cold.

 

I don't know. I wouldn't use Fram filters and I know they have caused problems on other cars. See this TSB:

 

I am going to try the new filter....if there is no check valve to help keep pressure in the system then the start up rattle is now understood.
I shall keep you appraised of any developments on this front.

 

The problem isn't the check valve it's that some aftermarket filters are more restrictive and the oil flow is reduced.

 

Is there a port where i can connect an oil pressure gauge
