Default Timing Belt Replacement

I havn't been here for a while and I recall last time here there was a message about replacing the timing belt to protect warranty at 60K miles or 100K km. I couldn't find that post to add to it so I started this new one.
Just as a heads up . . . . I was talking to the automotive manager of a large Dept store about tires . He aked me what year and model and I told him 2002 Hyundai Accent. He said OH . . I have one of those and drive about 80 miles round trip to work every day Said it's a great little car. I asked what has been his worst problem if any and he said only one. The timing belt caused a thousand dollars damage from bent valves and head damage etc. at 109k Km and the warranty was void because he didn't change it at 100K km as per the manual and warranty coverage. . He said it didn't even break. It just slipped a notch so apparently they will stretch as they get enough km on them.
Guess when I will be changing mine. Probably at about 90K km just to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry.

Well....i had my timing belt replaced today at 62,000 miles for $403....well worth the peace of mind of not having to worry if the belt will break before reaching 100,000 miles and voiding the warranty because of not changing it.

I know about the 60k mile replacment, I wonder it there is also time period also. Like 60k miles or 6 years whichever comes first?

In the Hyundai Owner's Manual for my car it states above the Scheduled Maintenance page:"Where both mileage and time are shown, the frequency of service is determined by whichever comes first."In the case of the timing belt it has 60,000 miles/48 months....i reached 60,000 miles right around the 49th month of ownership but didnt have it changed until 62,000 miles, the 52nd month. Now my dealership didnt seem to have a problem with me waiting 2,000 more miles but as far as your question im not sure if other dealerships will be picky and say you needed yours changed at 48 months regardless of the miles even if you just had say 40,000 miles as an example.Id ask your dealership on that just to make sure.

We recommend 60k miles. We dont go off months.Timing belt replacement on Accent isnt very expensive about 300.00add 50.00 for drive belts.Replace it at 60k and ya wont buy a motor or valve job.

I have hyundai 2001 accent. at 45000 miles we did oil change, dealer advised us to do 45000 miles service for $400 dollar. we were not prepared for that expensive service so we refused. Also we are retired and hardly driving. we have 47000 miles on it and dealer advised us to change the timing belt, I beleive it was another $400 or $500.

I read the manual it says 45000 miles includes timing belt repair or replacement. if we do only 45000 service----are we covered for warranty?
please advice.
