Hello all, I own a 2007 Hyundai Accent Hatchback with a rebuilt engine. It was in a wreck and I bought it after it was fixed up, and it only has 75k miles on it. I am planning on making a trip from Oklahoma to Washington (one-way). I'm scared to make this trip by myself and my car get stuck on the side of a mountain somewhere. I have tried to take good care of my car and keep up with the oil changes. Does anyone know enough to tell me if I should trust this car for the trip or if I should maybe look for a car more suited for the task??

 

No one can tell you how well your vehicle will do on a long trip.
That is between you and your mechanic.

 

The only thing I can think of is how old the timing belt is, other than that,you could take it to a dealer,or garage you trust, and have them look at it, and tell them you are going on a long trip.

 

From experience if you can afford it !

If for any reason your personal vehicle becomes disabled , the problem is all yours, road svc, repairs, possible overnight stay etc.
However, when it is a rental, they are most likely better maintained, and newer.

If it breaks down ,or you lock the keys in the vehicle,etc., they handle all service required including a replacement if necessary.

As a maint tech for a few moons, the old adage of preventive maintenance is not always true. It should be called programmed maintenance because you will do it one way or another. and it is not really pleasant doing it or having it done away from home.or on the road.

 

Yes go on trip, but first have timing belt replaced at 75K ,it's a must in my opinion. A w eek or two before your trip put about quarter tank 0r more of highest test gasoline and a oil change and check out your tires that good thread on them. By the way if you use nitrogen gas-air for your tires refreshes with new nitrogen gas-air and check your donut tire refreshes that too! Go on your trip and enjoy
