Default RE: 41,000 Mile Summary

I just switched to a new Dealer and the Service Manager claims he can get rid of the 'ticking' noise with a couple of oil changes using Mobil-1. We'll know in a couple of months as I have trips to Utah, Kansas, and Mass. between now and Thanksgiving. That, along with regular driving should be at least two more changes and I'll post the outcome. Even if the 'ticking' is still there I am considering a Genesis this Spring.

This would be good discussion thread when the time comes.

as for the ticking, try using Z-max in your engine and fuel. I use it regularly, esspecially now that my tiburon has over 100kmiles, and since using it gas millage increased a lot. went from 26-28 and now getting 30+ with a mix of agressive and passive driving. But from what i've read, it sounds like the ticking is a sticky lifter, and people that have used z-max have used it for things just like that, ticking in the engine, and it usually goes away completely. spending a little over $30 is wroth a try and better then taking it in to have it looked at, which will easily cost you at least $100. i swear by the stuff, but if you try it, give it about 2-3weeks to work, the difference will show when you least expect it.

Note the date of that TSB. July, 2005

In July 2005, there were no Hyundais that had the newer cannister type filters.
Note the MODIFIED DATE of that TSB = 11/19/2007.
In November2007, there were manyHyundais that had the newer cannister type filters.

Withthespin on types, it is possible forafter market manufactures to get the pressure relief valves wrong, but with the cannister types such as the Azeras and late Sonatas have, NO CHANCE at allas the pressure relief valve in below the cartride insert. It does not matter who makes that insert nor does it even matter pressure wise whether or not there is in fact any cartride there at all. Pressures will not be affected.

Therefore, it does not matter who makes the cartridge you install in that filter.
It's not just the pressure relief valves. It's the more restrictive media the oil passes through. Pressures WILL be affected.

Therefore, it DOES matter who makes the cartridge you install in that filter.
