Default Hyundai coupe rear brakes

Hi all
Wondering if someone can help I was fitting some rear pads on a Hyundai coupe (2002). The piston would only go in so far, so I had to put the old ones back on. anybody know how I can get the pistons to go right back. I did try and twist them, but they only went so far.

I tried to twist them, and they went in so far. I was able to use 'mole grips' to a certain extent. But they will only twist in so far, they feel free enough. I don't have the proper tool, how does it work? Do you have to unclip the handbrake linkage and or spring and 17 mm nut?
