I have an 02 Elantra GT which I've been relatively happy with. I noticed the vehicle had been making a horrible 'whomp-whomp-whomp' sound in time with the road speed and my mechanic said it sounds like a bad front wheel bearing.

My question is if the front wheel bearing is covered by the 10yr/100,000mi warranty or not. The vehicle has about 78k on it at the moment. I've been getting conflicting information, as the warranty book I have says 'front hub bearings' are covered, but the dealer service manager said that the front wheel bearings are not. Has anyone had any experience with this?

 

I thought the hub bearings and the wheel bearings were the same!!
