I will premise by saying it is 97' outside. On my 1999 Hyundai Elantra when I turn on my A/C I hear a chirping noise coming from the belt hooked to the A/C compressor. After research, I took a water bottle and squirted water onto the A/C belt and the noise went away for a few seconds. It doesn't chirp or make noise when the A/C is off and only the fan running. Only happens when the A/C is on putting a load on the engine. Is this a bad or loose belt? Can it be tightened? Or is it a belt tensioner and can that be tightened? What other pulleys are driven by this belt as well or is it just the crank? Is it easy to fix or does a mechanic have to fix it? Would would be the estimate cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

 

Yeah, loose belt. Could be the belt not gripping enough if old or it could be the tensioner not keeping it tight enough. No way to know over the internet.

 

It could be also be caused by noisy blower motor bearings.
