Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default 2005 Elantra Hatchback - Auto lock doesn’t work on hatch door

Just bought a 2005 Elantra Hatchback to get me from point a to point b, simply and cheaply. The passenger door window doesn’t roll down, I’m ok with that, the power lock button (there is no fob) does not lock driver’s door, I’m ok with that.

The problem I have is that the power lock button doesn’t work on the hatchback door. It unlocks it but will not lock it. I can manually turn the key to the left and lock it but should I ever accidentally press the power unlock button and forget to go back there and manually lock it with the key, anyone can come up and just pull on the door handle and open it - There is no alarm.

So, the question is, without replacing the lock actuator (if that is the issue) couldn’t I simple “unplug” that mechanism? That way the power lock button won’t affect it and I’ll just have to manually open it with the key?

I don’t mind the hassle or getting my hands dirty accessing the part - I just can’t make any further expense on this.

I don’t know much about cars so if I’m not making sense, please tell me so that I don’t dig in there for nothing.
