2008 Dipstick Level
The manual calls for 4.23 us qts for an oil & filter change. When i put in just over 4 qts the dipstick reads 1/4" over the full mark. Is the stick wrong or should I put in 4 qts. I do use a Hyundai filter & have been changing oil for over 35 years...
Right, the oil you poured in hasn't been pumped to and through the oil filter yet. Start the car, run it for a minute or so and then shut it off for a few minutes. Then check again. Also, be sure to check on level ground.

I don't know where you are getting your info but the Hyundai Service website clearly lists the 2008 Elantra as having:
Total Capacity = 4.33 US qts
Oil Pan Capacity = 3.91 US qts
Drain and refill including oil filter = 4.23 US qts
The owners manual is correct. The older (2001-2002) models had a TSB about incorrect levels but that was the XD model, not the HD model you have.

Once again...if you put in 4.23 qts. you are 1/4" over...I also called Hyundai service dept. and they said they put in 4 qts only...so much for the website & manual...and my google search has users putting in 3.75-4.0 qts...

Gotta love them production variations of pan rail height stacked onto block rail height, and diptick tube depth into the block, and stick into the yellow handle depth, I see of ton of varioations as to how much oil is dumped into engine to make the FULL dot on the dipstick.
