Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default 99 Elantra clutch install

i am having a problem removing the tranny froma 99 elantra. all bolts and linkages have been removed, cross member where front and rear mounts are is out, both drive axles are out. tranny pulls out about 1/2" and then will not come out any further. trans will spin on input shaft and feels like is catching somewhere. is there something else i am missing that i have not removed? please help, car is apart and in need of finishing.

Default RE: 99 Elantra clutch install

I had that happen on a Toyota one time. Two things...the car shouldbe in netral for removal and the other is that the shaft is stuck on the pilot bearing and is preventing it from coming out. I used a long bolt with a nut in between the trannny and block on two opposite corners screw the bolt in to the block ant hen used the nut to "press" the tranny away from the engine block.Use even pressure while doing so. It made a BIG BANG but did let go. You should replace that bearing anyway so no worries on breaking it. Now I have never done a hyundai so not sure it has a pilot bearing but I would imagine it does. Hope this helps....
