Belt Noise
Hi
My belts on the outside of the engine make a very high pitched whine when I first start the car. I tightened all the belts and the problem went away shortly only to return, now I know I need new belts, just trying to buy some time since its cold outside. My question is will the engine be damaged if I hold off 2-3 months in changing the belts-this is not the timming belt it is the other 3 belts.-sorry I forgot to enter year 2002 Elantra GLS

You really should replace your belts.
your car has three drive belts, which run the A/C, alternator charging, power steering and your water pump. if any of these break you will lose one or more depending on the belt that breaks. If your belt breaks and your water pump isnt circulating coolant, you run the risk of overheating your engine which can warp the head causing even more issues for you.
