Default Camshaft Sensor Replacement 2002

I have been looking all over for info on this and man is it scarce. I see info for crankshaft but I am needing help with a camshaft.

I took car to dealer and he said I have a code for camshaft sensor and it needs to be replaced. At this time my car has trouble starting over 90% of the time. I have been doing some work and it has gotten better. On good days I can crank one time, turn all the way off,and it will crank back up. On a bad day it will take two or more cranks. Gas mileage is horrible. Like it is just eating the gas. He told me $209 to fix. Please I am sure I can change out a sensor myself for much less I just need to know where it is located exactly and how to do it. I am sure it is easy but I can't find much info on it.

I was thinking of ordering a repair manual but I am not sure what is the best to get, haynes, chilton, shop. I don't know.

Anyways he also said I have some sort of Evap leak but I will deal with that next. And after that the issue with gas cutting off when filling up.Right now, I really need to my car to start up smooth cause it is really costing to much in gas. I can go through a half tank in one day. That is crazy.

Why is info on this so scarce? Has anyone attempted and completed? Mind sharing or pointing me in the right direction. Any and all constructive help is appreciated. Thanks.

For the life of me, i do not know what that diagram is. I think that is what I changed. It was on the upper part of the engine back. Started car up and still having an issue with it not starting the first time. I really love my car and hope it can get well soon.

When I took the camshaft out it look done. It had some nasty gray stuff on the tip all smashed and the oring was all melted out of shape, the tip was super black and nasty. It was gross. Def needed change. The actual uhh what's it called, wire connector I will say, that snaps into the sensor and the old sensor was filled with oil. Do I possibly need to change the wire connector too? I cleaned it best I could bit it was submerged in oil for IDK how long.

I hope I don't have to change the crank too. Such a headache.
