Because I cannot see exactly what you have in front of you, ,,Are you sure the socket is going all the way down on the plug to engage the hex of the plug?
Sometimes a special "Spark Plug Socket" is required to go deep enough to get on to the plug. If that is what is happening,it isn't the first time !
I understand you have changed plugs before, but even the pros get caught unaware once in a while.. To me that would explain why you feel no resistance when attempting to remove the plugs. I would dislike very much for you to take the car to another person that has the correct tool to remove the plugs if we could have helped you here..

 

Agreed. The socket is the wrong size.
If the socket gets stuck then the socket is probably too big
The rubber holds it down to the plug
But, socket is too big so it just spins.

 

If you are using a 1/2 in drive deep socket, it should go all the way down on the plug.
If ,however, you are using a 3/8 drive deep socket, it may not be long enough to go all the way down.

It may fit OK without any extension on the socket ,but with any extension in the socket it may be preventing the socket from going ALL the way down on the plug. .
Let us know if this was the case.

 

Hey, so I have 2 plug sockets. 5/8" and 16mm. Both actually fit on my new plugs and both offer the same result in the chamber. I can feel a short "click" as it seems to seat. It won't go any further. Are you saying there are different length plug sockets? I assumed that was standard and I haven't seen that mentioned for this car.

 

Ah, interesting. My ratchet is 3/8" drive. You're saying the plug socket for the 1/2" drive is longer than the 3/8"?

 

So I have the 2.5 inch long socket and a 5.5 inch option exists:

 

Half in drive is at least 1 1/2 in longer internally. .
What you can do is try your local auto supply store Autozone, Advance, Rock Auto etc and have a look at the special spark plug sockets and make your decision from there.

 

Is that really a 1/2in drive thing or is tied to the actual length of the socket? Because this is the first car I've ever had an issue with using my 3/8in drive set. So I'm hoping the longer socket is the key. I'd rather not have to buy a new ratchet set.

 

You should be able to get a 1/2 in drive spark plug socket and with a 1/2 in drive to 3/8 in drive adapter use your 3/8 in drive ratchet. They make adapters to go both ways..
Your local auto parts supply store should carry them. That's the nice part of dealing locally you can see all the nice tools right there and spend to your hearts content. With some of us it becomes a "sickness" .lol

 

OK thanks...so you don't think that longer 3/8 in drive socket would do the trick?
