I have an 03 Elantra that "seems" to run out of gas. I'd be driving around and it would just sputter and stall like it had just run out of gas. But if I just sat there for about 10 minutes, I could start it up again and it would run fine for 5-10 miles then it would do it again. If I filled up with gas, it would run fine again. For a while the problem happened whenever the tank got down to about 1/4 full; as long as I filled up at half, I never had the problem. For the past week or so, it has started happening when the tank was still 3/4 full. As long as I stop and put gas in before I go more than 100 miles, I'm fine, but if I go more than 120 or so, it happens again. Any ideas?

 

Fuel pump might be a good place to start. I have had similiar problems with Ford pumps in the past.

 

try to spray some carberator cleaner around the engine and see if theres a vacuum leak....

i had one that would sputter and lose power and sometimes choke, it was a leaking vacuum line.


if it sucks in the carb cleaner, the engine will choke...... vacuum leak.
