Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Question Clutch problem

Hi there,

I have a 1998 Hyundai Elantra (130K miles) and there seems to have a problem with the gear box. I am unable to change gear once the car is started, I mean I have to drive around in gear 1

When the car is not running, I can easily change gear 1 through 5 and reverse as well, but when the car is ignited, I cannot engage any gear! I have to engage in gear one prior to starting the car, otherwise I'm stuck on neutral...

Would any of you have a clue about this behavior?

(sorry for the low level of english)

1992-95 Elantra = J1
1996-00 Elantra = J2
2001-06 Elantra = XD
2007-up Elantra = HD

How old is the clutch? That's where I'd check first.
