Replaced switch, now car won't start and alarm sounds

Have an 2000 Elantra. Disconnected the battery to replace the heater/air conditioner switch, reconnected the battery, and now the horn/alarm won't go off and the car won't start. Any suggestions? This is a key only entry. thanks

I used to have a Jetta but my alarm wire was attached to the battery. Check to see if it is still attached or if it is dangling somewhere.
