Default replacing seat belts how do you do it? 2002 elantra

[align=left]how do you replace seatbelts in a 2002 elantra..? dealer wants me to pay beaucoup bucks to replace driver side assembly..is it easy for the mechanically ignorant?

Yes, just simple bolts. You also have to take out some of the trim pieces, but I can help you out with that; I've done that before. I would recommend buying or borrowing a torque wrench and making sure the bolts are tightened to the proper torque. I bet most of the cost is the parts themselves. You'll save the labor money doing it yourself, but if you are buying new belts it's still going to be a significant expense.

Why do the belts need to be replaced?

thank you for your rapid reply. one sunday morning the driver's side belt just stopped retracting. i know i am a big guy, but i've never had that problem before.

There are two things you need to know if you want to do it yourself:

1. How to get the trim off to remove the belt. It's really easy and I can help you with that.

2. Make sure the bolts that hold the belt in are torqued properly; remember, your life may depend on it!
