hi i have a 2002 elantra 2.0 dose anyone know if the water pump is electronicly controlled or belt driven as the temp guage is saying the car is over heating but the car is not so want to make sure the water pump is spinning thanks

 

What do you mean "the temp gauge says the car is overheating but the car is not"? If the gauge says the temp is high, I would believe it. The most likely cause is a bad thermostat. It's in the housing where the upper radiator hose goes into the engine block. The pump is belt driven, though, to answer your question.

 

thanks for the info ive put a new thormostat in and temp sensor the temp guage goes high but the engine it just normal temp when runningtheres no water spurting out like it would if it was overheating you can touch the raditor pipes if it was overheating u would not be able to touch them they would be to hot ive had the aa breakdown service out and he said it not overheating so any more info on this would be great thanks

 

Looks like you did a great job on the fix. The thermostat was a good choice of part to look at. The sensor was a great part as well. Also, I would make sure that all of your fans come on normally under normal operating temperature. The radiator fan when the coolant is hot enough...... The ac fan, when you turn the ac on...... Remember that there is a very small wheep hole underneath the waterpump and if it leaks there, you need to replace the pump. The best way to check to see if your pump is working right is that by squeezing the top hose going to the radiator and letting it go should feel pressure flow. That hose should be hot. Hope this helps.....
