Buying used winter tires and strut clearance
I have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS with 16" wheels (P205/55R16 6.0J×16) and 53mm offset according to my local Hyundai dealer.
I'm looking at a set of used winter tires on alloys. Tires look good. They're Hyundai brand alloys but most recently came off a 2015 Kia Forte5. Based on my research on wheel-size.com he wheels are most likely 205/55R16 89T 6.5Jx16 ET50 5x114.3 (2015 Forte5 and Elantra) or 205/55R16 89T 6.5Jx16 ET53 5x114.3 (2015 Elantra only), which are both half an inch wider than my stock wheels. According to willtheyfit.com the first set will lose 3.4mm in strut clearance and the second will lose 6.4mm in strut clearance.
Can anyone tell me how much clearance the Elantra Touring GLS has with stock 16" wheels and how much I can lose and still fit the used wheels?
