Default Low Fuel light - Fuel lndicator ~ 2.5 Gals

I continue learning all about this new car (2010 Elantra Touring GLS, Auto), I am using this forum, google and the manual. No luck finding any information on the Low Fuel light which of course led me to do my own test.

The fuel gauge was on E and the Range view said 37 miles til empty when the light turned on. It was a couple of miles to the next gas station where I filled up with 11.88 gallons.

Since this tank is supposed to be 14 Gallons, I am estimating the gauge comes on when you only have 2.5 gallons left.

My AVG MPG for this tank was 26.5 on the car computer.

Trip ODO had 298.4 since my last fill up which gives a calculated 25.11 MPG

The "Reserve" of 2.5 Gallons should have shown a range closer to 50-55 miles instead of 37 so this may be padded a little bit to keep us from running out of gas.

Anyone else finding something different?

I like keeping my tank over 50% at all times but for this test, I did have a jug of fuel with me just in case

That's about normal. 2.5 gallons when the light goes on.

I regularly run down the the low fuel indicator and the fill ups are typically in the 11.5 - 12 gallon range. And this is helpful to know when my route specifies that my next gas station is 39 miles onwards.

I just had my low fuel light come on with the Range view showing 65 kilometres (39 miles) to empty. Filled up with 46.1 litres (12.1 gallons).

I have a 2008 Hyundai elantra and rarely can afford to fill up my tank so I live by my gas light. This summer I had drivin 34 miles with the gas light on and finally filled up and it took a whole 13.8 gallons. So I was really close to running out. That was also using the AC the whole time. So now I won't go more than 30 miles with the light on. Filled up with gas 10 days ago and im just now at the half tank mark with 220 miles on the trip. Will be interesting to see what my gas mileage will be since its winter time and im not using the AC all the time lol. I was getting like 24 mpg mostly city driving and some highway driving with the AC on this summer. 2008 Hyundai elantra gls. 189,000

A little side note, when we run the tank level down to near empty we risk the pump pulling up the garbage in the bottom of the tank which is not good for the fuel pump.
There are strainers that are supposed to prevent that, but stuff gets in there anyway.

Suggest you try to keep the tank at least near half and purchase fuel when it drops below that. You never know when you may need to drive some distance and then have to stop for fuel. It should give you plenty of back up maintaining a 1/2 tank versus an almost empty tank.
