Default No cruise?!

According to Hyundai, it is impossible to get cruise control on an Elantra Touring in the U.S. if you want a manual transmission -- it's not offered on the most loaded version of the car.

Their solution -- this is what I was told directly from Hyundai customer service -- go to an aftermarket shop and get it installed. It doesn't void the warranty unless the cruise unit does something to damage the car, but putting aftermarket bits on a brand new car seems insane to me.

Anyone know what i30 parts or Canadian parts would be needed to add cruise? Both the the i30 in Europe and the Canadian Elantra Touring come with it on the manual transmission variant (or at least cruise is an option).

First, please don't make duplicate posts.

Second, do you know for a fact that cruise control is available on manual i30's? I highly doubt you be able to add it even if it was. It would be more cost effective just to add an aftermarket kit.

That's incorrect information, man. I have a fully loaded SE 5spd with cruise control. Cruise is not offered on the GLS 5spd.

My post in the new member area didn't include the questions about the i30 -- I felt it best to put that info in the model-specific forum in case anyone else searched for it. Please accept my apologies for the repetition.

Yep, the SE does come with cruise -- I found that out from a U.S. dealer after talking with the Hyundai customer relations people who said cruise didn't come on 5-speeds.

I'm still surprised cruise isn't even an option on the GLS and GS -- especially when it's standard on the automatic versions of the car.

There are forum posts on this site indicating cruise comes on manual tranmission i30's, so I'm going under the assumption that it does. I've also talked with the parts department from a dealer in Canada who said cruise comes on the manual Elantra Touring up there.

It probably won't be cost effective, and I'll likely go with an aftermarket kit. I just hate the thought of putting aftermarket under the hood of a brand-new vehicle.

When I was considering the GLS 5spd it seemed the most popular/best aftermarket cruise control option was the Audiovox line. They have a vacuum controlled device, and a more expensive electronic device. Just some food for thought if and when you go that route.

There's also a company called Rostra that will have an Elantra Touring-specific kit in a couple of weeks (they're updating the directions now). Now I just have to figure out what company to go with...

Yep, the Canadian gl model comes with cruise on the 5-speed. The U.S. gls model doesn't. And if you buy a Canadian gl and bring it into the U.S., Hyundai consumer affairs says you can't get warranty service at U.S. dealerships.
