Thumbs down our ET has no tint on front windshield

today we got your new tags at the dealer.
as I was looking at the new ET's 2011 - I saw that they too did not have any tint on the front windshield,
We just had 50% tint put on all the others, !! here in TX it gets so hot on the front dash (like it's going to melt!!
I have had allot of new cars & trucks All had factory tint in front.
we have to use a towel over us to cut down on the heat!

This has made the Elantra Touring a bad deal in my book!!..
HOT in ET !! & no help??? to come..

May cut our loses & trade for a better Ford or something in an 09, or older.

So, Do as a lot of Touring owners did. Tint it yourself or have someone else do it.
I agree the windshield needs tinting, but it is a easy fix. Ebay even has a pre cut one for your car.
I love my Touring! And there are a lot of Touring Lovers here!

Tint on the windshield (except for a small strip about 2" at the top) is illegal.

All windows have UV protection. I recommend getting the top strip for that Texas sun, and buying yourself a reflective windshield protector when you park your car.

I used to live down south, I know how hot it got. My friend moved to Florida back in the 80's and his first day at work he kept his windows up all the way and it melted the his steering wheel some. He worked on a military airfield where it is just about all concrete.

Thanks for the info, we have a silver protector a large truck one. That works great,
I'm looking at many options to try,
I put sunshield on the dash!! that made it to shiney.
Just use the towel so far. & not going to lose 10.000 in a trade for a lesser car!!
regards
Ron

Your Hyundai dealer should have a custom fit sun shade available in their parts department for around $30. Only one side is reflective, so you don't get the glare once it is in place. This doesn't just lay on top of the dash, it fits in the windshield opening and is secured in place by the sun visors. These are much better than the cheapo reflectors from the auto parts store since it is custom fit to your specific vehicle.

I think here in Texas you can have a windshield strip as long as it doesn't go down past the AS1 line which is marked on any DOT approved windshield. You may want to double check that, but in all honestly, I am not sure how much help a 3" wide tinted strip will be for this car because it has such much other window glass.

Have you tinted your windows? If not, that will help the most. I strongly recommend ceramic window film as that reflects the most heat. You will probably pay around $400-500 for your vehicle, but it is certainly better than trading in and losing a ton of money.

Ebay also sells custom cut sunshades. I bought ones for my Tucson and Kia Sedona. They fit the windshield exactly and help keep the interior cool when parked.

on the tint , you can tint the top about 3" for $25 bucks .
that does not help the other 95% of the window!
we had it done on all our cars the Honda Fit & others .
the factory tint that is on a Kia Reo is better then on our ET!!.
Thats just my problem with the Hyundai elantra Touring, that will Burn up your legs
& arms on an 100 mile ride, I just think Hyundai should have done there home work
on the (Touring car?).

I am sorry your car is giving you those problems. I never had an issue with feeling heat through the windshield on mine and I drove mine during the hottest months of the summer. I too live in Texas, so I experienced at least similar temperatures as you. If you haven't had your side windows tinted, you really ought to because that did make a big difference in my car. I bought mine in March and even then I noticed the heat through the windows before I had them tinted. I really think this will take care of 90% of the heat unless you spend most of your time driving directly into the sun.
