Default Pulsating vibration/ bad harmonic...

Occurs at 40 mph...goes away at ~45 ...then reappears from 68 mph on up. Dealer cant find the problem, but acknowledges its there. Had to deal with it for a 2k round trip. Bad enough on the highway that you can see the vibration pattern in the rear view mirror when looking at the defroster lines. The dealer ordered a new exhaust component waiting to be installed, but I highly doubt this will fix it. Mines an 09...anybody else have this problem?

Wow, actually had this same problem a long time ago with my Chrysler minivan. Doubt if it's the same problem but there was a damper in the steering wheel below the air bag and they changed this damper to "tune" out the cyclic vibrations at 35 to 45 mph coming through the steering column at different frequencies. You could actually feel these vibrations through the floor and gas pedal. Don't know if Hyundai uses this but the problem sounds similar. Or maybe you have a front tire that's getting wierd? Maybe switching tires around from the back to see if the problem still exists

Actually, had the tires rotated/balanced prior to the first dealership visit. no difference. As for the damper thing, havent a clue. Id like to think its up to them to figure it out, after all, Hyundai built it, lol. However, Im not above suggesting repairs to the service department when no headway is being made. Thanks for sharing that.

Your tire is out of balance. You need to balance your tires on small cars every 20,000 miles. You are talking about different speeds so tire needs to be balanced. Give it a try better than ball joints or some other major problem. Also check for proper air pressure.

Ummm...you missed the part of this thread where I had said the balancing had been done. So, one more time- there was no difference. 20,000 miles??? The rotation and balance need to be done a lot more frequently than that.

Update- It is at the point where I do need new tires. Last week the dealer swapped out the rims and tires off an ET they had recently received. It did make a difference. New tires will be on the car this week. Will update with results.

Okay new tires are on the car. Its better, but not gone. So, that tells me that good tires mask the problem and it only becomes more pronounced with wear. Im thinking wheel bearings might be the problem? I even took the car back to where I purchased the tires and they did a road force balance on it. Even though there was some runout on one of rears, it didnt make a difference.

I am having a similar issue--right around 40mph, in any gear. It has a slight shake through the 40's to almost 50. Then its fine. I do not get any concerns at 68mph as does the OP. Just got new tires 5K ago. No change. Rotated last week--no change. Car has 45K (2011 SE). Issue has been for over 10K now...and I thought it was me! The pulsing is more in the accelerator pedal than the steering wheel--but you can feel it in the seat of your pants...its the whole car, not like a warped rotor felt in the steering wheel only. Very weird.

I'll make an appointment and see what's what from the dealers point of view.

I would love to hear the resolution of this problem. I am having the same issue. I just purchased an 07 tiburon, tires are new. Soon as I hit 50 mph it starts shaking pretty bad. Any new info?

Is it shaking as you accelerate??
What happens when you let off the gas??
If it smooths out then check motor mounts
Visual inspection should tell you if they are good or not
