Side Mirror R&R Notes
At some point in the recent past, the mirror glass on the right (passenger) side door mirror broke on my sister's 2010 Elantra Touring wagon.
The replacement part for the glass with heating element and backing plate (87621-2L130) lists for $89 from local dealer parts counters, but is usually discounted to around $60 by various on-line Hyundai parts vendors. And then there's the problem of removing the broken glass and reinstalling without breaking the new glass. Glass only replacements (without heating elements) seem to be available from some eBay sellers, but this car needs to manage winters in Buffalo (NY), so the heating element is a must.
A quick search at car-part.com found an ideal replacement mirror assembly (good condition and same exterior color) available for $30 plus $20 UPS 2-day shipping. We chose this route to repair the broken side mirror.
Replacement was straight-forward:
Much easier, IMO, than buying a new OE mirror glass. --g

Replacement was straight-forward:
- Set the side mirror control to the center position and open the door window.
- Use a trim tool to remove the cover trim starting at the top corner. This trim piece is held on with three (3) clips: one metal clip on the top, two plastic clips on the bottom.
- With the trim piece removed, undo the two electrical connectors: the white connector is for the door tweeter, and is released by depressing the exposed tab on the side of the connector:
The black connector is for the mirror actuator and heating element, and is released in a similar fashion:
Before setting the trim piece aside, check for the two (2) blue plastic body clips on the door between the two lower 10 mm nuts, as they may still be in the door panel. Remove the clips and replace or refit to the trim piece before proceeding.
- Place a work rag in the gap below the lower 10 mm nuts to prevent the removed nuts from falling into the space between the door and the interior trim panel.
- Using a deep 10 mm socket, remove the three (3) 10 mm nuts that hold the side mirror assembly to the door. An extra hand is helpful here to hold the mirror assembly in place until all nuts are removed.
- Pull the old side mirror assembly away from the door.
- Install the replacement mirror assembly in the reverse order. Before replacing the trim piece, check the operation of the mirror glass actuator.
Much easier, IMO, than buying a new OE mirror glass. --g
