Climate Control System Changes on its own
We have a 2007 Hyundai Entourage and our automatic climate control system malfunctions in the sense that it will randomly change on its own and do things like turn up the fan, crank up the rear heat, turn on the recirc button, turn off AC, etc..
Has anyone ever had this issue? I am thinking I might need to replace the main HVAC control unit but I am not sure. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Q: I see it's been 4 months since your opening post...
How about a FOLLOW UP.
DID YOU WORK THRU YOUR ISSUE (FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON?)
*****
Q: How many miles on car?
Q: A/C system usage... on 90+ percent anytime the car is running?
Q: Car ever wrecked?
Q: Water /flood damaged?
Q: Salvage title?
Q: Car ever been "jumped off, Have you jumped someone off? (Microprocessor circuits do not react well to voltage surges)
Q: Aftermarket stereo, or burglar installed by local wiz-bang stereo shop?
I have very limited experience with the Auto Climate control system but the system is supposed to do things like do things like turn up the fan, adjust heat, etc.
On Auto the A/C light remains off.
So far as the system turning on the REC button light. I read that when car has been parked in the sun, the sensor at the bottom of the dash senses temp/and or combo of heat and amount of sunlight coming thru windshield for a brief period of time turns OFF the recirc, pulling fresh air from the outside- then switches to ReCirc.
What position the air vents are set to will affect how system behalves AFAIK, On a 98 Dodge Caravan for example setting the system to Defroster disables the REC function... May be the same on the Entourage.
Q: What kind of temps are you getting?
Stick a thermometer into vent closest to driver, Does it read around 40 degrees output? The 2007 Entourage I have access to stays around that temp- and varies the air output.
PS: So far as ideas, The Auto climatic control system uses multiple sensors, could be any one of them or something mechanical related.
Download /access a copy of the Hyundai Factory service manual... put the system into "Diagnostic Mode" and post the CODES you are getting.

I was able to fix the issue by replacing the HVAC head unit. Brand new the part is well over 500 dollars. I found it on eBay from an LKQ dealer who pulled it from an entourage that was rear ended. It cost me 50 bucks with a 30 day warranty. Drove it last month over 1500 miles in central California and back to Oregon in 100+ temps and it worked like a charm. My kids even commented that the air in the back when it's cranked up now is frigid.
The replacement took me about an hour or so. Just takes time to be careful removing the dash Panels to get access to remove the head unit. Otherwise it is just a plug and play.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
