Default 2012 Genesis Fueling/Check Engine Light

2012, Genesis, 5L, Sedan,96K miles- Performed beautifully since new. But recently the Check Engine Light came on and has stayed on. After fueling it acts like it does not want to start, but after two or three attempts it does start with an initial high RPM for a second. After the fueling event, it starts and runs just fine, but the ECL stays on. Have replaced: 1) air filter(31453-3M100); 2) canister Close Control Valve (31430-3M000); & 3) Vapor Canister (31420-3M500). Please advise of suggestions of what to replace or check. Bill

Hi Bill,
A little FYI, there are 2 emission control valves that deal with gasoline vapor getting released to the atmosphere.
One that sends gasoline vapor to a charcoal canister to be captured and one that after certain conditions are met, sends those vapors from the canister to the engine to be burned. When they don't work as designed , performance can be affected. Not everyone understands how they are supposed to work and the problems they present when they don't.
Another problem, there can be some quality problems from some parts imported and sold that don't work right out of the box. Domestic made parts might cost a little more, but they usually work. They are referred to as COUNTERFEIT PARTS. The makers copy the packing so close you have to look carefully to catch them.
I could offer a suggestion on what to replace, but if you purchase a cheap part and it doesn't work , what good does that do?
A vent valve that is not working correctly can produce the problem your vehicle displays. The right way is to run checks and verify what is suspected.

Default 2012 Genesis Gasoline Vapor Control

hanky, thanks. FYI The three parts replaced with OEM's (from Hyundai Dealer) were Air filter (31453), Canister Control Valve (31430), & Fuel Vapor Canister (31420).
Today's BlueDriver Scan Report reads as follows:1)PO 441 Evap. Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow;
2) Occupant Detection System B 1489, 1496, 1495, C1616, B1493; 3) Airbag B1102 Battery Voltage Low; 4) Electric Parking Brake C1656,1625,1642,1616,1611,1646,1613,1612,1101, 1102; Airbag Deployment B 1493Passenger Occupant Detecting System Communication error. I strongly believe the problem is with the fuel system &/or vapor control/burn. Does the Scan Report give any clue as to the solution? Can the parts recently replaced be checked off of the vehicle? What vent valves need checking? This problem is out of the range of dealers in South Texas. Any suggestions I'll gladly pursue. Thanks,
Bill Wright

Given the symptoms of your 2012 Genesis 5.0L Sedan with 96K miles, the persistent Check Engine Light (ECL) after fueling, and the initial difficulty starting, you may want to consider further diagnostics. Start by having the vehicle's onboard diagnostics (OBD-II) codes read to pinpoint specific issues. The initial high RPM after starting could indicate a potential fuel system problem, such as a faulty fuel pressure regulator or a fuel pump issue. Additionally, check for vacuum leaks, as they can impact fuel-air mixture. Given the age and mileage, it's worth inspecting the spark plugs and ignition system. Consult with a professional mechanic for a comprehensive diagnostic check, ensuring a thorough examination of the fuel and ignition components for a precise diagnosis and resolution.
