2004 Santa Fae 2.7 Timing Issue

I had a motor mount break and while it was torn down I noticed the timing belt was wearing. I tryed lining up the timing marks but the starter just clicks now when I try to start it. I notice the cams springs back with pressure and sometimes goes past the timing mark. The marks for both cams are pretty easy to see, however I am not real sure about the crankshaft. Why is the crankshaft so hard to turn? Thanks for all your help.

Crankshaft turns the pistons.
When pistons are on compression stroke, it is tough to turn the crankshaft
Try taking the spark plugs out. That should make it a little easier.
Also when trying to turn the crankshaft, should try using the crankshaft bolt with a socket wrench

Good luck
