2005 Santa Fe fuse blowing

Fuse 28 keeps popping and don’t know why. Here’s what I do know:

1. Lights behind the gauges don’t work (speedometer, tach, gas gauge).

2. Right side marker light doesn’t work

3. Right tail light doesn’t work

4. Fog lights don’t work

5. All other fuses seem to be fine

6. Rear lamp relay seems to be fine

7. Fuse 28 doesn’t pop until I switch on the lights

Anybody have any idea what might be the culprit?

Thanks!

Hi John,
Evidently, there is a direct short circuit path allowing the power to go directly to ground. The idea is to attempt to locate that shorted location.
The possibility of a problem within the dash lights is kinda remote, so let's look at the more likely places.
If no one has worked anywhere on the vehicle before this problem appeared, I would start with opening up the R/S fog light assy and look at the assy plus the wiring to that light. If no broken or pinched wire is found don't reinstall everything just yet, move on to the R/S marker while up there , open it up and do the same thing. If no problem is found there ,go to the R/S tail light and check that out. The reason we don't reinstall everything until the problem is found is because sometimes the problem is not present when everything is removed. If the fuse still blows with all those items opened up ,there is a problem between the fuse panel and the wiring to those lights. Before going any further , let's see what you find up to this point.
