Yes, they are steel and no, the can't be welded back together. The crack isn't the problem, it's the wider spacing the crack makes between the ridges.

The clearance between the ring and the speed sensor is pretty small so you'd probably end up with a bigger problem.

The ring itself only costs about $23, so if you can fix it yourself the cost is minimal. Even to have it fixed by a mechanic shouldn't cost that much.

thanks guys...it was a tone wheel broken......on the passenger side....thanks very much for your help.......you are soooooo goood.....the problem is gone......finally..

We find it somewhat difficult to offer an estimate because the times are a few years different and rates and locations differ also. You could probably obtain a few estimates and make your decision from there.
