Default ABS and TCS lights came on and have not gone out.

I was driving in some snow the other day and suddenly both lights popped on. I have hit the TCS button to reactivate it, but to no avail. My car is a 2004 Santa Fe 2wd. Any ideas and is it dangerous to drive without these to the car or for my driving capabilities until I get it fixed. Thanks for any info.

Have you had the brake light switch replaced as part of the recall:
https://www.hyundaiforum.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=6251
The most widespread recall, affecting up to 531,894 2005-2008 Accent, Azera, Elantra, Entourage, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, and Veracruz models, is NHTSA Campaign 09V122000. It is focused on a malfunctioning stop lamp switch that may prevent brake lights from illuminating when the pedal is depressed (the same switch may also cause them to stay lit after the brakes are released).

Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s):
HYUNDAI / ACCENT 2006-2007
HYUNDAI / AZERA 2007
HYUNDAI / ELANTRA 2007
HYUNDAI / ENTOURAGE 2006-2007
HYUNDAI / SANTA FE 2007
HYUNDAI / SONATA 2006-2007
HYUNDAI / TUCSON 2005-2007
HYUNDAI / VERACRUZ 2007-2008

Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY Mfr's Report Date: APR 14, 2009
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V122000
PE09003

NHTSA Action Number: PE09003

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:SWITCHES:BRAKE LIGHT
Potential Number of Units Affected: 531894

Summary:
HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 531,894 MY 2006-2007 ACCENT, ENTOURAGE, SONATA, MY 2007 AZERA, ELANTRA AND SANTA FE, MY 2005-2007 TUCSON AND MY 2007-2008 VERACRUZ VEHICLES. THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.

Consequence:
THESE MALFUNCTIONS MY LEAD TO A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-633-5151.

Notes:
HYUNDAI RECALL NO. 092. OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Check to see if your brake lights work. Also test your cruise control. If they don't work either, the brake light switch is the problem.

Default No on the replacement of brake light switch

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my car is a 2004. I don't believe that it is part of that recall. It looks as if it started in 2005 models.

Recall not applicable to the era of Santa Fe..

I would be more concerned with broken/split tone ring(s) at front axles.. everyday occurance with the SM chassis.

I was just trying to have you start with the easiest thing to check first. If the brake lights and cruise control work then the problem is probably not the brake light switch.

Default How concerned should I be with the broken/split tone rings??

Is this something I need to fix before I drive it any more or does it just mean my ABS and TRS do not work anymore. And is this something one can fix easily or is it a Hyundai shop thing? or a regular mechanic? Thanks.

Again, it depends on what the problem is. If it's the switch, you, you can do it. If it's the tone ring, then I'd suggest going to a trained mechanic. Have you checked the brake lights and cruise control?

Default yes. brake lights and cruise work.

Is it going to be ok to drive it with a split ring until I can get to Denver and see a mechanic. Will it be dangerous to drive it for a week and/or will it screw it up more to be driving it for any length of time?

Drive it till the day the trans or engine blows up.... you will have plain old everyday services brakes just like all the cars of the past..
