noise after startup

my parents have a 2007 hyundai santa fe limited with the 3.3l and with 99000kms on it now ive been noticing that about between 5-10 seconds after start up theres this clatter noise like a rattle does not sound like a knock, now i saw somewhere there is a problem with the timing chain tensioners on these engines now would the tensioner cause this noise, oh and do any of you run quaker state dino in these engines

thanks

Yes, it could be the tensioner.

is there an issue if you dont get it replaced like what comes to my mind the chain skipping teeth on the cams

That's a possibility but I haven't seen any documented instances of that. There's a TSB about the problem. Take it to the dealer and let them repair it under warranty.

the car came out of its powertrain warranty not to long ago

do the 3.3l have a anti drainback valve i know these engines have the catridge style oil filter

scottyboy1190 03-07-2012 08:21 AM

i have another question the car is one of the ones that has this issue with the clock spring assembly in the steering wheel assembly to do with the air bag now even though the car is out of warranty does anyone know if up here in canada if it would still be done for free seeing its a safety issue

NovaResource 03-07-2012 08:59 AM

Yes, the anti-drainback is part of the housing that holds the filter, not part of the filter itself.

Bummer about the warranty. I highly doubt the clock spring would be covered if the warranty is over.

do the anti drainback valves wear out on these engines. and thanks about the clock spring i will just have to tell them time for a new car
