Worn 2002 Santa Fe Steering wheel.
In 2002 my wife bought a new Santa Fe which has now done 200,000 miles with nothing needing replacement other than windshield wipers and a battery.Vey impressive *but* the steering wheel has deteriorated to the point of almost unusability. The vinyl has just worn away and whole chunks are missing. Even a leather lace-up cover has proved useless. I am amazed that Hyuandai could prodce such a weak link in what has proved to be a great car. My local dealer tells me that new steering wheels are no longer available and in any case would cost over $1000. Anyone got an idea for a solution?
Thanks,
Alan

Try this site, it will direct you to salvage yards. You can do a
search for a certain mile radius to find one. www.car-part.com
Keep in mind you're dealing with airbags, so make sure you know
what you're doing or have someone who does do it. Good luck.

8yr, 200,000 mile, and the steering wheel is falling apart...
Sounds like that steering has had a good amount of grip time to me..
My car has a vinyl wheel, and at 335,000... I have polished the texture smooth, same goes for the shifter ****...polished it down to point you can barely make out the 1-2-3-4-5-R in the top..
