Fuel backs up fill tube after about a half gallon. Been this way for 5 years. Something is restricting flow from tube into the fuel tank. I asked dealer and they have no immediate recognizable answer. Seems like this should be a safety issue acknowledged in some factory bullitin.

I've spent most of my adult life in the auto sales industry, well over 45 years, many as a used car manager. In all of that time I have never experienced this problem. I've never had a service dept person mention this problem. I've never had a buyer come back and complain about this problem. I spent years with GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota. Never heard of this before. Even the service writer at the Hyundai dealer had never heard of this before. Is it just a Hyundai phenomenon?

 

Well, I've owned 2 Hyundai's and 3 Kia's (Hyundai owns Kia) and none of those cars ever had this problem. It's mostly from overfilling the gas tank. I never overfill the tank when filling up, however, all but 1 of my Hyundai/Kia cars were used, so I can't say what the previous owners did. Maybe I just got lucky, but in my opinion, no, I don't think its a Hyundai phenomenon.

and I have been experiencing this for about a year I had it checked out multiple times by my mechanic because periodically the check engine light comes on as well and my mechanic said its causing conflict with the computer so he told me to bring it to the dealer because he did not want to damage the computer or cause anymore conflict. in the process of making an appointment....
