2003 Sonata spark plug location
 

My sister's 03' Sonata (4 banger) threw a code the other day. Can't remember exactly which it was, but it was the one referencing a cylinder 2 misfire and could be spark plug, wire etc etc...

I have some mechanical know-how from workin on my Jeep, but her car is whack to me. So gonna try and start with the plugs and see if that helps.

She says it feels sluggish at times, hesitates and yadda yadda...

Not too familiar with the engine, not familiar at all. So where do I find the spark plugs? Here's a couple pics of where I 'think' they are.

I pulled the boot off and there is a long plastic looking thing, is there a plug down there? This one is located on top of the block

This second pic is behind the block, with a plastic-ish cover which i'm not quite sure how to remove but looks like there's a plug wire going into it.

Well, go buy some real HYUNDAI wires, and the ends wont pull off like your inexpensive discount parts store wire did..

Wire end likely burnt through, or plugs need to be changed.

Install NGK Platinum ONLY, buy real Hyundai / Kia wire set, and look very carefully at the coil' bodies for large white/grey spot.

Is that where the plugs are though?

As far as i'm aware those are the original plugs/wires. Havent bought anything for the car yet.

Does that black long plastic thing in the first pic come out or what? Not sure how they work on this car

Don't bother removing the black plastic cover, nothing under there you need mess with.

So it's just the two wires/plugs under the big cover then? How do I get the long plastic thing out of where the boot was pulled off of?

Reach down inside and pull it (wire end remnants) out, then use spark plug socket and remove the spark plug
