Default 2006 Sonata with 78k miles. Is it a good buy?

Hi,
I need your inputs in helping me determine whether I should go ahead with the purchase of a 2006 Sonata with 78k miles used. I have a '08 camry & this would be my 2nd vehicle. Is the sonata a dependable car vis-a-vis honda/toyota?

I saw lot of recalls on the '06 model. Assuming, dealer certifies that all recall problems have been cleared, is it then a good buy. Some other questions:

1. Does anyone have info/experience of whether sonatas run well beyond 100k? I mean do they go as much as honda/toyota (ie., 220/250k).

2. Is the maintenance cost on used sonata's higher as they age?

3. I'm having the car checked out by a trusted mechanic. Are there any specific problems that you've encountered/known that I should him check out?

Your opinions good/bad is welcomed to help me make a decision.

My wife got a 2006 not too long ago with the 3.3L engine and an automatic. I don't know anyone else personally but when i was researching this car Consumer Reports gave it good marks.

I like it for the power but wish the suspension was a bit stiffer.

The mechanic checkout should be a good idea. One thing i am very impressed with since i work on all my cars myself is the quality of the service manuals you can get for free on the Hyundai owners web site.

Walk into dealer service aisle and ask the service fella to run VIN on WEBDCS..

It will call out any open campaigns.. look at bottom at the warranty claims history.. look for a claim that says tensioners... if it not there, run !!

First production 2006 (mostly 2005 build dates) had a pile of recalls, so look at build date, and claims history... the first claims will likely be PDI first, then assorted recalls and other claims mixed in.
