Once a year we go camping and the car is packed to the gills. Anyone know of aftermarket booster spring shocks/helper springs/etc. that fit a Sonata? I am having no luck finding anything.

 

Nobody has boosted their rear suspension springs, eh? Bummer.

Funny you should have a post with the same question. I'm moving across country, NYC to Portland OR. As it's late Fall, I'm avoiding mountains and the center of the country. Instead I'll be crossing Southern, and shooting up through CA. My brother is a veteran of many military moves, and suggests heavy-duty shocks for x-country. I don't plan on having the car stuffed with anything more than a weeks' worth of supplies for myself and the elderly dog, but you never know.

Would heavy-duty shocks be a good thing under these conditions? I have the '06 Sonata with the sports package, and am wondering if the car would be unhappy with the stiffness. If they don't make them specifically for my car, would it be a bad idea to just use regular heavy-duty shocks? It's a time thing, so I'm going to Pep Boys. Don't know if they have a "make it work" philosophy, and whether that's not a good thing.

Shocks do not support weight. They only control the motion of the suspension. To carry more weight you need stronger springs.

 

Turns out the car needed struts, shocks, new roters, brake pads. Now I have an issue with the shop. I was charged $15. for a brake inspection, and he said they were fine.
