Default 2007 Sonata Transponder key

Gents; Does my 2007 Sonata have a chip in the key? I lost one of my key sets and need to purchase another and have it programmed if it has a chip..I have looked at many sites but it is not clear if this old Sonata has a transponder key or not.. Some say yes, it has a chip while others say no. Scratching my head. .

If you purchase a key and have it cut to work and the vehicle won't start, it most likely has a chip in it.

.....did read a big clue is if some sort of a security icon appears on the instrument cluster when turning the key to start....possibly means a chip's in the key. Mine has no security icon. I think the problem will be however, that the new key fob will have to be programed by a lock smith. Looks like there is no do it yourself programming method like my son's Taurus has. I lost one of his keys sets also....getting old....and bought a new one. I was able to program it and the FOB myself by reading one of these type sites for Ford.....Thanks for your help Hanky.

Hi Dave,
Just a reminder, check around for which locksmith is most reasonable because he will have to come to your home to do the programming.

The systems have managed to prevent vehicle theft, but have also managed to cost us a lot of $$ too.

Looks like I won't be able to take the misses to Craker Barrel for lunch today! Thanks again Hanky
