My 2002 Sonata w/ the 2.7 liter V-6 and 4 speed Automatic, (not optioned with traction control or anti lock brakes)103,000+ miles suddenly bucked, dropped out of overdrive and into 3rd gear, with a check engine light illuminated. This occured while cruising on the MASS pike at 70mph with cruise control engaged. The tranny fluid is full and does not appear or smell burnt. Fluid has been changed @ 50,000 mile intervels, the last one using Castrol Inport fluid with SPII or III @ 100K. Vehicle was immediately stopped and towed. Any ideas before I commit to a tranny overhaul? I have no way to check the codes.

suggest you check codes before even thinking of overhaul...
sounds like a tranny sensor?
