2011 Sonata Limited
Just purchased 2011 Sonata Limited without the nav option. I have owned three Mits Galants since 1994. Bought this car based upon auto magazine reviews. This is my first Hyundai.
Two quick questions;
1. When should the first oil change be preformed? I am an old school shade tree mechanic which means first oil change ocurs at 500 miles. The best I can assume from the owner's manual is the first oil change should happen at 7,500 miles unless using severe operating schedule.
2. I am two hours from closest Hyundai dealer. Can you recommend on-line Hyundai parts sources?
I asked the salesman about the first oil change and break in proceedures at the time of purchase and they didn't know (care?). You'll like this, they googled this website and then searched. I didn't find anything on the first oil change but did find break in proceedures here. The information on the webpage was the same as I later found in the owner's manual, page 1.5

1. 7,500 miles. There's no need to change it earlier than that unless you use it as a taxi and do nothing but city driving. Then I'd suggest 5,000 miles. Changing at 500 miles is a waste of money and oil. Modern engines and oils are much better. There is no need for a "break-in oil" or to change it every 3,000 miles.

We have 500 or so miles on it and so far no problem. I believe there was a recall on the 2011 Sonata for a steering problem but that was all suppose to be fixed at the dealers before they sold the the cars on their lots. In test driving Sonatas I drove one that had something serious wrong with it; seemed like every 5-6 feet it traveled it would lurch like it had just hit a deep rut.
Just purchased new limited. Vehicle started pulling left after the first 200 miles called by cell since this was the maiden drive and told them of severe pull. The pull increased with speed as well may have increased as the outside temp increased. Drove the vehicle in temps at freeze and did not notice the pull as much and actually thought the problem was just new brakes hanging or something.
I have had the vehicle one week, now has over 2000 miles, pulling is hard left but may suddenly change to the right until the steering wheel is moved to center. The pulling is bad enough that if the steering wheel is released vehicle is into the guard rails in less than 50'. Vehicle is back at dealers who say they have never heard of any steering issues with these vehicles.
I read the possible alignment issues, possible tire belting issues, strut issues, electric steering issues. Sounds like could be many things. There are no lemon laws in Canada so I hope this has not been a mistake purchase. (Ford guy for 35 years)
If someone comes up with a common fix to the complaints pls post.

I appreciate you guys posting on the problems with the new Sonatas... I currently have an '02 Sonata and have had nothing but problems with alignments, wheels, bearings... before this Sonata I had an Elentra, it had the transmission replaced 3 TIMES!
I really did NOT want to buy another Hyundia but I liked the look of the new Sonata and was thinking of getting one... but seeing as the cars are not even off the sales lot and there are already issues, I will not be getting one. I've bought a used Acura 10 years ago and the only thing I've "fixed" on it was changing out the plug wires! I think i'm going to get a Used Infinity instead of the Sonata now... $22k for a New Sonata or $22k for a Used Infinity with 60k Miles. I'm leaning heavy on the Infinity.
Thank again all!
