2018 Limited 2.0t clunk and spin on startup
Hi all,
I have a 2018 Limited 2.0t and it's been doing a few odd things for the past... Well pretty much the last year.
Occasionally (mostly when it's warm/cold, my car makes a horrible LOUD metal clunk noise on startup, followed by a spinning down noise.
I have taken it to the same dealer for this issue over a half dozen times. They've HEARD it before, but they can't replicate it more than a few times. They replaced the original starter with an "upgraded" version at the same time doing the fire system update. The noise went away for a bit but nonetheless has returned. They have heard the attached comparisons but still say they can't do anything about it as it's a "liability" which is fait.
There are two videos. The one with a black screen at the beginning is the one with the noise, the other is the control. Hopefully someone here can help!

Although my Hyundai is much older and not a turbo like yours, the big clue to me is the "spinning down" noise u hear.....that's got to b a starter. The dealer did right in replacing it but the noise came back. With that new of a car I would not settle for a maybe fix. Can u take it to another dealership.....do u have a local garage that can look at it? In my opinion one day ....and soon....that car will leave yourself r worse yet your wife stranded! Good luck

Yeah, sounds like a starter and flywheel issue
If the bolts are loose on the starter
then it could sometimes engage the flywheel wrong and cause that thunk sound and spin down
Or it may need shims to align the starter on the motor correctly
Don't know??
