First make sure your thermostat is working at 180 degrees.. Then find a hill and work the hell out of your engine.. Stop at the bottom of the hill.. Gas your car up to 45 mph then let off the pedal till it gets down to 20mph.. Then do it 3 to 4 more times.. Then do it 2 more times.. With the brake instead of let off the gas... Yes I was not happy doing to my car.. But it worked out great.. Good Luck..

 

That should not be necessary to do, as smog checks on any '96-up vehicle only consists of interfacing with the ecm to determine i/m ready and sensor stats, of which is stored in the memory, for smog checks. Here in TX, we also have annual saftey and smog checks. Make sure your tires have good tread, horn works, wipers and spray work, brakes work, parking brake works, defroster works, all lights working, and no leaks in the exhaust system. If your check engine light is on, or any of the above not working, it will fail here. If your battery went dead or was disconnected, or cleared a check engine light, you have to wait about 30 warm up cycles before the ecm is i/m ready, or it will also fail smog.

 

Here in new york.. We have had problems with 2004 sonata not passing due to emissions not being ready on the computer.. That is why I wrote it up on the board..
