Installing Daytime Running Lights in Sonata 2005

I love my Sonata 2005 :) and I will be importing it from US to Canada soon. One of the Canadian requirements is to have a functioning Daytime Running Lights (DRL) on them. Unfortunately my car does not have DRL at all and so I want to install them. I wonder whether this is possible to do? The Hyundai dealership denied my request saying that the car is too old, but a local mechanic mentioned that he might be able to do it. So I have the following questions:

1. Is it possible to add DRLs on Sonata 2005?

2. What would be the overall procedure? I read this: https://www.hyundaiforum.com/forum/h...perience-6429/. It says that DRL will be wired to high beams at half power. It also says that the parking lights can be wired up as DRLs too. So which option is best?

3. Is it safe to do such modification? I wonder whether adding DRLs will overload the fuse box or create some other heating issue, etc?

Hope to find some help here.

Best,
John

Many places to buy DRLs
Here is one on youtube

Here is a video on how to install DRLs

You can also turn on your own lights by adding a couple of relays to turn on whenever the key is in the on position.

Good luck

I see, so basically the DRL comes with LED lights and a module box? Shouldn't the module box be compatible with the car? Is there be a module box for 2005 model which is old?

As I said, it is possible to add relays to turn on your own lights whenever you turn the key to the on position
You just have to know how. Auto electrician can do it.
Or if adding these DRLs are legal enough for your locale then the modules should be plug and play.
The modules should only want a power source and ground in order to work
The power source should be controlled by the key.

Does the car have front fog/driving lights? It's very easy to rewire the relay so they go on with the ignition instead of the switch. Many people do that modification.

Yes, I have front fog lights. But the post here (https://www.hyundaiforum.com/forum/h...perience-6429/) says that fog lights cannot be used as DRLs. So I thought of not doing that.

No idea who that guy is if if what he said about DRL's in Canada is true. Take that post with a grain of salt. I'd suggest doing some research yourself to see if you can use fogs as DRLs in Canada or not.

I called CanadaTire (which will eventually do the federal inspection in Canada) to confirm that I can directly use my fog lights as DRLs.
This is great since now I only have to add a relay and do some wiring.

Thanks for the help @avisitor and @NovaResource!
